Now upcycled into a hidden book safe, this illustrated children's book has been given a second life as a discreet place to keep small valuables or keepsakes tucked safely out of sight. On the shelf, it looks like a bold, familiar read, but inside there's a hollowed compartment designed to hold something a little more personal.
The red lining adds a strong contrast to the white cover, whilst the base of the compartment features a black-and-white illustration from the book. Each piece is carefully made by me in my Inner West Sydney studio, transforming old books into something practical and fun.

This is a real book that has been carefully hollowed out, not a decorative box made to look like one. The pages are sealed, so the book keeps its shape while creating a practical hidden compartment inside.
Because each book is upcycled, small signs of its previous life can sometimes remain, which only adds to the character.
