This copy of The Australian Casebook has been carefully upcycled into a hidden book safe, turning a well-known detective story into a discreet place to store small valuables or keepsakes. Sitting on a shelf, it looks like a substantial classic read, but inside there's a hollowed compartment designed to keep something safely out of sight.
The book's illustrated cover gives it a strong presence, while the yellow inner pages only enhance its character. Inside the compartment, an original page from the book has been preserved, keeping a connection to the story. Each piece is carefully hollowed out in my Inner West Sydney studio, giving it a practical new purpose.
