Inside, it's a completely different story.
Carefully hollowed into the pages is a hidden compartment, turning this unassuming book into a discreet place to store jewellery, cash, passports or small valuables. The inside has been finished with a new endpaper on the cover, while the base of the compartment features a quirky vintage ginger beer print of a girl and a cat - an unexpected detail that gives the piece its own personality.
Each book is carefully upcycled in my Inner West Sydney studio, transforming something overlooked into something both practical and a little bit special.

This is a real book that has been carefully hollowed out, not a decorative box made to look like one. The pages are sealed, so the book keeps its shape while creating a practical hidden compartment inside.
Because each book is upcycled, small signs of its previous life can sometimes remain, which only adds to the character.
