This 1927 copy of Kidnapped has been carefully transformed into a hidden book safe, turning a vintage classic into a discreet place to keep small valuables or keepsakes tucked safely out of sight. On the shelf, it looks like a beautifully aged book, complete with its illustrated cover featuring a pirate fight scene, but inside, there's a hollowed-out compartment ready to hold something of your own.
A vintage-style map with ship lines on the base of the hidden space, adding a subtle nod to the book's adventurous spirit. A new endpaper has been added to the inside cover for a clean finish, while the rest of the book's character has been preserved. Each one is carefully hollowed in my Inner West Sydney studio, giving this piece a practical new purpose.

This is a real book that has been carefully hollowed out, not a decorative box made to look like one. The pages are sealed, so the book keeps its shape while creating a practical hidden compartment inside.
Because each book is upcycled, small signs of its previous life can sometimes remain, which only adds to the character.
